Hi all,
I'm new to tarot and watching Ariel do readings on Instagram has inspired me to want to learn more. I'm very excited about Tarot Tuesday!
I've been reading The Complete Guide to the Tarot by Eden Gray after I noticed this author mentioned in the AWP handouts.
@Ariel Gatoga here are some questions I have starting out:
As a beginner, should I just dive in and start experimenting with laying out cards and refer to the interpretations in the book and my notes, and keep doing that until the meanings start to become more intuitive?
Are there any other recommended ways to practice?
At what point might I be able to do readings that are meaningful and trust my interpretations of them?
I'd also love to hear more about how you mentally prepare for a reading, how you think when you're reading, etc.
I enjoyed the first Tarot Tuesday very much and can't wait for the next one!
I have been picking up cards off and on for years but I really don't know it-I just rely on meanings in the booklets. I plan on watching the video again and going through each card as Ariel did and to practice draw one and see what I get from the imagery and keeping in mind what Ariel said about each. I will be a beginner with you!
I want to learn using playing cards and then obtain a tarot deck when I’m drawn to one ... I know it’s forthcoming
There are so many out there. I can't stop thinking about the CBD Marseille deck. I think it looks a little bit smaller than Rider-Waite (I have a hard time handling those).
It’s an adorable deck
I was shocked that there was Hebrew on the box
The man who inspired the printing seemed so fascinating. I watched the little vide of him on the site.

Which deck is this one in the picture? I love how bright, clear and beautifully colored they are.
This is my first Tarot Deck I received as a gift when I was a teenager. I like it better than CBD deck because the rods are green si you can easily distinct them from the swords. But later I was drawn to the Crowley Tarot and used it for years. I don't know why but I love the images by Frieda Harris. What do you think of it?
Love the Thoth deck. Wasn't my cup of tea initially when I first saw it; the more abstract imagery coupled with a knee jerk reaction to anything Crowley at the time was a big block. However a few years down the line I began reading through some of Crowley's writings, which led to Biographies, which led to learning about the religion of Thelema. My opinion had changed somewhat. Wouldn't exactly say I'd become a fan of Mr Crowley and neither a Thelemite but certainly appreciated some of his writings and the wisdom within. Anyway, to cut a long story short, a friend bought me the Thoth deck as a gift and I felt completely different towards it. Without the previous prejudice. It is a beautiful and stunning deck. Sadly I no longer have the deck but would definitely be happy to have it in my arsenal again.
This deck is lovely! I really like the faces. The way faces are drawn on many of the Marseilles decks have usually been a little off putting for me. But, I really like these. The colors are also really soothing. Vivid, but not too bright or strong (for me) .Thank you for sharing Susanne!
I personally use Dragon Tarot. Been using it for 30
I love that green! So would yours be considered Marseiile deck? The Ben-Dov ones are CBD Marseille? I looked up the Frieda Harris-wow gorgeous! So art deco.
@Shannon Yes, this is also a Marseille deck. It‘s based on the woodcuts by Claude Burdel.
