Angel Magic with Samael Break Any Hex With The Third Pentacle of Mars Hexes are not a big deal unless you make them one. Pull yourself out of the equation and call on the Archangel of Mars, Samael. If you have taken my Basic Angel Magic Course , then you already know that Samael is a beneficial archangel who rules the sphere of Mars. Give a conflict to Samael, and he will always handle it in the highest way possible. Remember that you are coming to Samael because your goal is peace, not revenge. Being completely free from any curse or hex is what you want. Leave all else to the Law of Cause and Effect to sort out. Creating this talisman is a way of reverently asking Samael for help. This spell is best performed on a Tuesday during the waning moon; however, need is always more important than timing. Materials needed for the Pentacle to Break Any Hex: Pencil or pen (black) Piece of red paper or card Ruler Compass Protractor Perfume of Mars (I like Honeysuckle, but ginger, or myrrh are also excellent choices) Red pepper powder Vegetable oil Salt Note: If you are using a spray perfume, then incense is not needed, but if you are using a perfume oil, you will also want to burn incense and wave the talisman through the incense. Procedure (see video example at the end): Cut an 8.5" square of red paper or card and mark a dot in the center of the page. Draw a 5" circle and then a 6" circle just outside of the first circle . With a protractor, create a triangle pointing up, touching the inner circle. Draw a second triangle pointing down within the first triangle. Darken all lines in the talisman with black ink. Draw a six-pointed star on the top of the talisman between the two circles, followed by the god names, in Hebrew, all around the circle (right to left). Write the other Hebrew characters on the face of the talisman in black ink. Flip the paper over and write your petition to Samael in Coptic Script. Anoint the talisman with a perfume of Mars. Sprinkle salt over the circle of the talisman. Sprinkle powdered red pepper on top of the circle of salt. Anoint a red candle and a black candle with some anointing oil (vegetable oil with a pinch of salt mixed in). Set the candles inside the talisman, red on the right and black on the left, and light them--red candle first and then black. Knock five times on the altar, and close your eyes. Do your very best to see a white light, while you conjure a feeling of deep peace for an entire five minutes; then let the candles burn down and out by themselves. Carefully carry the talisman with the powder on it outdoors. Sprinkle it anywhere outside. Return indoors and rip up the talisman and throw it in your garbage. A Spell for True Love This is an old love spell that has helped a great many people to find their true love. This love spell is best performed on a Friday during the first week after a new moon. Ingredients: Dried Rose Petals Sugar Small bottle with lid 2 candles (one pink, and one the color of your sun sign) Vegetable oil Essential or fragrance oils of rose, jasmine, and sandalwood Pink Fabric White or pink ribbon Procedure: 1. Make the love powder Blend the dried rose petals and sugar together well. This is your love powder. 2. Make the love oil Pour some vegetable oil into the bottle. Add a few drops of each fragrance oil into the vegetable oil and blend well. Keep bottle closed tightly when not in use. 3. Anoint the candles with love oil Anoint the candle representing you first, saying “This candle represents me,” then place it on a steady tray covered in the pink fabric. Next, anoint the one representing your true love saying, “This candle represents my true love,” Wear this love oil as your personal fragrance during the 7 days of the spell 4. Make a figure eight with love powder around the candles Take the love powder and sprinkle it around the candles in the shape of a figure eight, chanting “over land and over sea, my true love now comes to me.” 5. Light the candles Keep chanting as you light your candle first, then the pink one. 6. Conjure the feeling of being with your true love Sit before the lit candles and imagine and FEEL yourself in a beautiful relationship. Keep this up for about five minutes, then extinguish the candles. Move the tray out of sight until the next night. 7. Repeat the candle lighting and conjuring for 7 nights total Each night, light the candles as before, chanting the love chant then sit again before the candles and visualize and feel your desire. Items Needed for the Coloring Spell A small piece of paper or card; A pen with black ink; Something to draw a small circle with, such as a compass, a jar lid, or a cup. A coloring medium (crayons, colored pencils, pens, paints, etc.) Method In black ink, draw a small circle on your paper or card. Inside the circle, write what you desire as if it has already occurred. For example, “I paid all my credit card bills in full.” Next, determine which color represents your desire. This Candle Spell for Any Purpose is an old standby that has never failed me. I hope you get the same marvelous results I have gotten through the years. The spell uses an ingredient called Florida Water . Many magic practitioners use this traditional Eau de Cologne in various magical ceremonies and spells. If you can't find Florida Water, you can substitute any traditional Eau de Cologne . Don't just spray any perfume, though. If you can't find either Florida Water or Traditional Eau de Cologne, omit that ingredient from the spell. Ingredients For The Candle Spell A small jar with a lid (a baby food jar is a good size) A taper candle (plain white or the color that represents your desire) Some soil Vegetable oil (olive oil, safflower oil, etc.) Salt (plain salt, nothing added) A pen and a small piece of paper Four coins, preferably all the same denomination A small bowl Florida water Procedure For The Spell Fill the jar halfway with the soil. I use dirt from my garden. You can also use a potting mix from a nursery if you like. Place the coins in the four directions of the jar so that the heads of each coin are facing out. Do your best to arrange the coins so the heads appear to look through the glass. If you can't place them perfectly, it's okay. Just do your best. Write your desire as succinctly as possible on a small piece of paper. Fold it up and "plant" it in the soil. Fill the jar with more soil and pack it in. Make some anointing oil by mixing a small pinch of salt into some vegetable oil. (Hint: Make your anointing oil in advance and use it for all your candle magic). Be aware that the salt won't dissolve. You will see the salt crystals at the bottom of your anointing oil. Anoint the candle with the anointing oil by putting some oil on your index finger and dragging it up the side of the candle, first from the center up through the wick and then from the center down through the base. Place the candle in the soil so that the soil acts like a candle holder. Pack more soil around the candle if needed. Place the jar of soil with the candle sticking out into the small bowl. Pour water into the bowl so it comes about halfway up the side of the jar. Pour a small amount of Florida Water into the water. Light the candle. Take a few minutes to visualize and feel yourself having what you desire. Let the candle burn down and out by itself. After the candle has finished burning, remove it from the water bowl, and close the lid on the jar. Hide this closed jar containing the soil, paper, and candle wax somewhere in your home. Sprinkle the water from the bowl all about your home. When the spell has come true, open the jar. Remove the coins and scatter them outside somewhere so that a lucky person finds them. Bury everything else from the jar in your garden (if you don't have a garden, it's OK to dispose of them in the garbage). Wash the jar to use it again for another spell. In Psalm 1, the psalmist appears as a personal guide to help you find what you’re seeking—in this case, prosperity. Take a moment to reflect on the type of prosperity you want, whether it’s financial, emotional, or something else entirely. The Importance of Positive Influence "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly," reminds us that we are blessed when we resist negative thoughts and influences. These thoughts often come from within, telling us why we can’t achieve our goals or focusing on what’s wrong in our lives. To move toward prosperity, it’s essential to stay open to the possibilities of what you desire. Negative self-talk, like doubts about your abilities or fears of failure, will hold you back. The same goes for external negativity—surrounding yourself with people who constantly focus on struggles and hardships can make it harder to see a path forward. Prosperity thrives in an environment of confidence and possibility. That’s why it’s essential to step away from both internal and external fear, gloom, or despair. Redirect your focus toward growth, opportunity, and the abundance you aim to create. "Nor standeth in the way of sinners…" To sin means to miss the mark or make mistakes—something we all do. However, when you repeatedly follow the same missteps, letting them shape your actions, they stop being just mistakes and start becoming habits. Over time, those habits define who you are. If you surround yourself with people who focus on negativity—those who constantly complain about how bad things are, how hard life is, or how unreachable success is—you’ll find it difficult, if not impossible, to move forward toward your goals. That’s why it’s essential to create some distance, even if only mentally, from such people and conversations. The company you keep has a significant influence on your direction. Guarding Against Cynicism and Self-Doubt The phrase "...sit in the seat of the scornful"  refers to showing contempt or mockery. Many reject the idea of growth or prosperity, dismissing the possibility that changing their thoughts could lead to better outcomes. Often, they meet enthusiasm with criticism or hostility. You don’t owe them explanations, nor should you get caught up in their cynicism. Stay focused on your progress and avoid letting their opinions become a distraction. It’s often better to keep your plans and goals private, protecting them from unnecessary judgment and criticism. At the same time, reflect on the "scornful seat" within yourself. How often do you criticize yourself, others, or the world around you? How much time and energy do you spend resenting politicians, news stories, or your circumstances? Even if your frustrations are valid, dwelling on them won’t help. Instead, redirect that energy toward building what you want. Focusing on solutions, rather than problems, opens the door to incredible change and growth. By shifting your attention, you create space for marvelous outcomes to unfold. This is one of the great powers of working a Psalm 1 prosperity spell. The Law of Cause and Effect "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night."  What is the law of the Lord? From a Hebraic perspective, it refers to the Torah. For magicians, however, the Torah is a symbol for the law of Cause and Effect—the law of the Infinite. The world of cause is the unseen realm, while the world of effect is everything we experience in the physical world. If you’re seeking prosperity, there’s no need to force outcomes or manipulate circumstances externally. Instead, align yourself with the Law of the Lord. Focus on what you truly desire. Meditate on it deeply—day and night—just as the verse advises. Channeling your energy toward wonderful, prosperous thoughts and desires is far more productive than succumbing to fear or doubt. Keep your attention focused on your cherished goals, allowing them to shape your thoughts and reflections. By turning inward to the unseen realm, you begin creating what you want at its source. Trust in the law of Cause and Effect—it will naturally bring your vision into the physical world without the need for stress or overthinking. The process will unfold as it should. Creating a Foundation for Enduring Prosperity “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in season.” This is a powerful reminder of what we should strive for in life. Let go of ideas and habits that block your happiness, goals, or success. Instead, focus on building a solid foundation rooted in the infinite source, one that allows you to thrive, constantly nourished by love and support. This isn’t about quick fixes or temporary solutions like money spells that fade away. It’s about creating something enduring—a prosperity tree. Picture planting a money tree that grows and supports you over the long term. What gives this tree its strength? The Infinite’s love for you. When you understand that the unseen world is the source of everything, you plant that understanding in fertile ground. From there, the Infinite provides all the nourishment needed for your prosperity to flourish. It starts in the invisible, and as it takes root, it naturally manifests in your life. The Power of Nurturing Success “His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”  This reminds us of an essential truth: what we nurture in the unseen will eventually take form in the visible. Success begins when you root yourself, like a tree, in fertile soil—soil enriched with the boundless love and support that the Infinite constantly has for you. This journey is a partnership with the Infinite, a reflection of what is meant for you. Yet, the choice remains yours. What you focus on will grow. To succeed, you must direct your energy toward what truly matters, make intentional choices, and let go of distractions or ideas that steer you off course. Align your thoughts and attitudes with your deepest desires. This is how you plant the seed, nurture it, and allow it to thrive. The love and support of the Infinite are always with you, guiding and sustaining you every step of the way. Releasing Harmful Thought Patterns “The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.” In ancient times, farmers would toss grain into the air, allowing the wind to carry away the light, useless chaff while the valuable grain fell to the ground. This image prompts a simple question: Do you want to be the sturdy, thriving tree or the chaff, swept away without purpose? This process also mirrors the way we can release harmful thought patterns. The ego’s destructive habits can be let go, much like chaff blown away by the wind. By allowing the Infinite to clear these unhelpful thoughts, you create space for clarity, growth, and prosperity to take root. Trust this natural process, and watch as your efforts blossom into something meaningful. Ego vs. Soul: Aligning with Light “Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.”  This highlights how ego cannot coexist with the soul, just as darkness cannot remain when light appears. Think of searching under the bed for something in the dark—you can’t see anything. But the moment you shine a flashlight, the darkness disappears. It doesn’t resist the light; it simply fades. The same happens with ego-driven thoughts. When truth shines through, those thoughts dissolve. They can’t exist in the presence of light. In the same way, ungodly thoughts cannot "stand in the judgment" or "congregation of the righteous" because only what is authentic can endure. So, what does it mean to be "righteous"? It’s being in a state of clarity, peace, and happiness—your most natural and balanced self. Anything that doesn’t align with this state cannot remain. The Infinite Sees Your True Self  “For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” "The Lord" represents the ultimate source—pure oneness, the foundation of all existence. This source goes beyond concepts of gender or deity, encompassing everything without exception. Nothing exists outside this Infinite Presence. Our minds have the power to imagine and create freely, but these creations, when at odds with the Truth, are not inherently real. Though they may feel real to us, they are illusions, separate from the actual source. Only the oneness of the Infinite is absolute—everything else fades in its light. “For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous” reminds us that the Infinite sees us as we truly are—whole, joyful, free, prosperous, and complete. It does not recognize the version of us defined by struggle, lack, or burdens, as those are not our true essence and hold no real substance. This understanding is profoundly freeing because it reveals that when we align with how the Infinite knows us—as we were originally created—everything that isn’t true to our nature effortlessly falls away, like chaff in the wind. The false identities and struggles simply dissolve with ease. Letting Go of What No Longer Serves Us “And the way of the ungodly shall perish.” This reminds us that anything not aligned with our true selves naturally fades away. The psalm uses the image of separating the chaff from the grain, symbolizing the process of clearing away what no longer serves us. You were created to live a life of prosperity, joy, and freedom. Anything that blocks your happiness or success is not permanent and can be released if you’re open to it. The psalm encourages you to allow the Infinite to gently separate the “chaff” from the “grain” in your life. This isn’t about judgment or punishment—it’s a loving process of letting go of what doesn’t belong, so your true self can shine through. You don’t have to do this alone. Just as the wind carries away the chaff, the Infinite can lift your struggles and challenges. Practice this Psalm 1 prosperity spell daily until you feel a deep sense of peace and certainty. Once this feeling arises, you'll know the prayer has taken effect. At that point, let go of your situation, trust in the power of Psalm 1, and move forward with confidence, knowing everything is aligning perfectly. Let’s take a moment to explore the symbolism of Lucifer and its deeper meaning. The Symbolism of Lucifer: A Journey from Ego to Unity When it comes to mythology, like the tale of Lucifer, it’s important to remember that myths are not historical accounts. They’re symbolic frameworks designed to help us grasp complex, abstract ideas. You can’t approach myths as literal truths; their value lies in their ability to reflect aspects of ourselves, much like the way Jungian dream analysis interprets dreams. Every part of a myth mirrors a part of who we are. With that perspective, let's avoid objectifying the story of Lucifer and instead use it as a tool for self-reflection. According to the story, Lucifer was the first angel created, referred to as the “only begotten son of God.” Symbolically, this points to the idea that humanity is one—an expression of a singular, unified intelligence. In this view, Lucifer represents the first embodiment of that unity, almost like the eldest sibling in a universal family. And while humanity may seem like many individuals, we are, at our core, one entity. The story goes on to describe Lucifer’s decision to give humanity our full powers of free will and creativity sooner than God intended. His intentions were not malicious—he believed he was helping his younger siblings. However, in making this decision on his own, Lucifer attempted to act separately from his creator. By deciding he knew better than God, Lucifer first introduced the idea of separation. This act of separation wasn’t born out of malice. Instead, it marked the beginning of what we might call ego—the attempt to create something distinct from perfection. But when we try to think apart from perfection, the outcome is inevitably imperfection. The symbolism of Lucifer highlights the concept of separation from unity and the resulting imperfections that arise. That’s the core message of the myth: separation from unity leads to illusion . Lessons in the Symbolism of Lucifer and the Ego Lucifer’s choice in that moment wasn’t driven by wickedness. The story suggests that Lucifer was trying to do something positive but acted without wisdom. The decision to think independently led to distorted self-awareness, creating a false sense of reality for humanity. As soon as Lucifer chose to believe in isolation, that way of thinking spread, fragmenting humanity’s collective consciousness into countless individual egos. This wasn’t Lucifer’s intention, but it was the inevitable outcome of acting with arrogance. Another unintended result of this choice was the creation of the demiurge . In Gnostic teachings, the demiurge represents the ego—an artificial intelligence of sorts that uses the mind’s creativity against itself. The demiurge is seen as a builder or architect, constantly generating a counterfeit world where we can project our ego-driven thoughts. This false world serves as the screen for the projection of our illusions, separating us from reality. The dilemma we face is rooted in this arrogant, isolated thinking. Lucifer’s story is not about evil; it’s about misunderstanding. And in that way, we are all Lucifer. We engage in independent, ego-driven thinking, believing we are separate from our source. But true individuality doesn’t require separation. We were created with unique souls designed to co-create harmoniously with the divine. The ego, by contrast, believes it operates alone, building its existence on fear. Living in an ego-driven world means existing in a state of fear. In contrast, the real world, created by infinite intelligence, is free from fear. The world we currently experience is artificial—a projection of ego—but that doesn’t mean it feels unreal to us. Within this illusion, we are living out the consequences of separation. However, from the perspective of the divine, nothing has fallen, nothing is broken, and we remain connected to our source. The “fall” is simply a falling asleep, into a dream--a state of forgetting. According to the story, Lucifer granted humanity free will too early, before we were ready to use it wisely. This premature freedom allowed us to create our own experiences—both harmonious and chaotic. But without the maturity to understand our role as co-creators, we became lost in this counterfeit world of conflict and separation. The result is a world that operates against the will of infinite intelligence. Yet, this doesn’t mean we have the power to alter divine will. Instead, we have fallen asleep to it, dreaming up an alternative experience. The Symbolism of Lucifer in the Journey of Return The fall isn’t about punishment or destruction—it’s about forgetting. When we lost awareness of our connection to the divine, we began experiencing a fragmented reality. The story of Lucifer leading a third of the angels to Earth symbolizes this shift from unity to separation, a collective movement away from wholeness. According to this perspective, Lucifer's role is to guide us back to understanding. The story suggests that Lucifer’s task is to remain among us, teaching us that we are not separate, that we can heal, and that salvation is possible. In this sense, Lucifer represents both the problem and the solution. The moment Lucifer recognized the original mistake, forgiveness was granted. In that instant, God responded with compassion, saying, "Nothing truly happened—but now it’s time to wake them up." Lucifer then became part of the process, entering the dream of separation as many times as necessary to help us learn that we are not isolated individuals but part of a greater infinite intelligence. Lucifer’s role is to remind us that we are not bound to this world, that all is well, and that we don’t need to rely on our egos. Instead, we can align ourselves with a greater, universal understanding. Lucifer is thus depicted as a savior figure —a bearer of light and redemption. In this perspective, salvation comes from recognizing that suffering and "sin" are mere illusions, capable of being undone. Lucifer’s role is to remind us that no actual harm has occurred, gently guiding us to awaken from the dream of separation. However, this awakening happens only through the exercise of our own free will. While Lucifer offers guidance, he never acts in opposition to our choices. The story frames Lucifer’s initial awakening of free will as leading to our self-created suffering. However, Infinite Intelligence (or God) crafted a compassionate plan for our awakening, with Lucifer playing a key role in leading it. In this sense, Lucifer is not the antagonist but the teacher, guiding us back to unity and awakening. The Symbolism of Lucifer as the Transformative Power of Forgiveness Symbolically, Lucifer represents two essential aspects of the human journey: the ego's arrogance and the wisdom that comes with self-awareness. Often portrayed as a villain, Lucifer reflects our struggles with mistakes and redemption. His story demonstrates the consequences of thinking separately from Infinite Intelligence while offering the Way of reconciliation. Like an older sibling who faltered and found a way back, Lucifer’s narrative encourages us to examine our potential for transformation. By forgiving Lucifer’s symbolic error, we take an essential step toward releasing many other grievances tied to that initial act of separation. Forgiveness is a central theme in spiritual teachings, and Lucifer’s story aligns with this universal truth. Figures like Jesus emphasized the power of forgiving not just others but also ourselves. The Gospel of Q , an early record of Jesus’ teachings, highlights forgiveness as the path to unity and truth. By forgiving Lucifer's original error, we can let go of guilt and resentment. This act of forgiveness is not about absolving others—it is about freeing ourselves from the weight of suffering and separation. In Christian teachings, Jesus is seen as the ultimate example of forgiveness and redemption. However, focusing solely on Jesus as an external savior can lead to missing the more profound, personal meaning of his story. When we view Jesus or Lucifer as symbolic aspects of ourselves, their stories reveal profound lessons. Jesus represents unconditional love and unity, while Lucifer reflects the experience of separation and the way of redemption and atonement. At its core, Lucifer's story is about letting go of guilt, fear, and the belief in separation. Seen in this light, it becomes a powerful metaphor for awakening to truth. Redemption is not an external event but an inner realization, like waking from a dream and understanding that the guilt, pain, and separation were never real. This awakening is not confined to any religion or dogma. Across cultures and beliefs, myths and symbols carry the same truths. Whether through Diana, Isis, Buddha, or others, the message is clear: the world we perceive is an illusion shaped by humanity’s choice to think separately from Infinite Intelligence. These stories remind us that our ultimate purpose is to awaken from this illusion and reconnect with the infinite whole. Forgiveness allows us to move beyond the layers of illusion and return to this awareness. The Symbolism of Lucifer as the End of Guilt The belief that Jesus died for one’s sins tends to create a sense of guilt and reinforce the false notion that we are separate from Infinite Intelligence. However, when we view it as a symbolic story showing that suffering, death, and separation are illusions, it opens the door to a deeper understanding. The story can then be a tool for growth, teaching us that salvation comes from within, not from external sources. It reminds us that redemption is about releasing guilt and embracing our divine nature. The story of Lucifer offers a similar perspective. Often misunderstood as one of rebellion and punishment, it can be reinterpreted as a reflection of the human journey: the fall into ego, the experience of separation, and the eventual return to unity. By examining the symbolism of Lucifer, we can better understand the mistaken belief in ego-driven individuality. It shows that mistakes are not sins that need to be forgiven, but are opportunities for learning and awakening. By forgiving Lucifer—as a symbol of the first perceived error—we also forgive the part of ourselves that feels disconnected from the divine. This act of forgiveness leads to healing and a renewed awareness of our unity with Infinite Intelligence. These stories have universal significance, transcending specific religions or belief systems. The figure of Lucifer shouldn't frighten us, but instead help us understand our shared connection. By viewing Lucifer's story as a metaphor for our spiritual journey, we can move past rigid beliefs and develop a more profound sense of unity and compassion. Forgiveness becomes a tool for freedom and unity. Redemption is not about earning forgiveness or proving our worth. It’s about remembering the truth that has always been: we are inherently worthy. We are part of an infinite whole. The illusion of separation is just that—an illusion. Releasing guilt, fear, and resentment removes the barriers that prevent us from recognizing our true nature. This change doesn’t come from external approval or salvation but from an internal shift to the truth that is already established in ourselves. The symbolism of Lucifer thus guides us back to unity, showing that separation is only an illusion. The message is simple yet profound: forgiveness and unity are essential to awakening. Lucifer's story is meant to guide us to release the illusion of separation and embrace our shared divinity. The way of return begins with forgiveness—of ourselves, others, and the illusion itself. Through this, we remember that we were never truly separate but always part of the infinite, divine whole.

In ancient Celtic and Gallo-Roman religions, Cernunnos or Carnonos is a god depicted wearing an antler crown and seated cross-legged. He's linked to stags, horned serpents, dogs, and bulls. He's frequently pictured with a torc, sometimes holding a bag of coins (or grain) and a cornucopia. He is believed to be an original Proto-Celtic God. Over fifty depictions and inscriptions of him exist, mainly in the northeastern region of Gaul. Uncovering the Mysteries of Cernunnos in Celtic Mythology Cernunnos is a fascinating figure in Celtic mythology, deeply connected to ancient traditions. His name likely derives from the Gaulish word "kanon," meaning "horn" or "antler." Many scholars theorize that he may have been tied to a Gaulish deity with possible associations to Mercury or Dis Pater. This horned god is strongly linked to Celtic concepts of nature, abundance, and the wilderness, with references to him appearing across various inscriptions and artifacts. The Role of Cernunnos in Celtic Life Cernunnos likely held a central place in religious customs, often associated with nature, fertility, and life cycles. Scholars continue to debate whether he was primarily a nature deity or a figure tied to travel and commerce. Archaeological finds, including inscriptions and relics, provide glimpses into his role in ancient life. One of the most notable artifacts is the Nautae Parisiaci monument, dating from 14 CE. This monument features Cernunnos alongside other Gallo-Roman and Gallic gods, highlighting his ties to prosperity, harmony, and balance. Additional inscriptions from Luxembourg and Montagnac further enrich our understanding of this enigmatic deity. Depictions Across Regions: Representations of Cernunnos Through Art and Myth The Pillar of the Boatmen in Paris is a key artifact depicting the horned god surrounded by animals and coins, symbolizing prosperity, balance, and fertility. Sailors and traders often sought his favor for material wealth and success, as seen in the coin imagery featuring his likeness. The Gundestrup cauldron, a famous artifact from Jutland, also contains a striking depiction of Cernunnos. This image reflects Celtic themes of strength and vitality, emphasizing his role in rituals and celebrations. Antlered human figures resembling Cernunnos have also been found in regions like Val Camonica, France, and Britain, demonstrating his widespread influence. The Legacy of Invoking Cernunnos Even Roman records, which often documented conquered gods, fail to fully explain the horned god, setting Cernunnos apart. His absence in these records makes invoking Cernunnos a unique practice distinct from Roman traditions. Scholars have drawn parallels between Cernunnos and deities revered by the Gauls, such as Mercury, Actaeon, and Dis Pater. Later depictions, such as in the 9th-century Stuttgart Psalter, continue to explore the mystique of invoking Cernunnos. This manuscript portrays the horned god with crossed legs, majestic antlers, and a ram-headed serpent, symbolizing his connection to the underworld and funerary customs. Why Invoking Cernunnos Still Matters Today The concept of invoking Cernunnos remains fascinating, as his imagery and symbolism reflect Celtic values of strength, fertility, and harmony with nature. Whether through ancient inscriptions, monumental artifacts, or artistic depictions, studying Cernunnos offers a glimpse into the spiritual life of the Celts and their reverence for this enigmatic deity. The enduring mystery surrounding Cernunnos ensures that his legacy continues to captivate and inspire scholars, enthusiasts, and modern-day practitioners alike. The Wiccan Horned God In Neopaganism, the Horned God is central, especially in Wiccan traditions. The “Horned One” is often seen as equal to the Great Goddess, representing an amalgam of horned or antlered gods from various cultures. Invoking Cernunnos is a common practice within Wicca, as he is one of the deities most strongly associated with the Horned God. This connection is largely due to the works of Margaret Murray, an esteemed Egyptologist and folklorist from the early 20th century. Gerald Gardner and the Evolution of Wicca Murray proposed the Witch-cult hypothesis, suggesting European horned deities represented a "proto-horned god." She expanded on this idea in her book The God of the Witches (1931). While her theories sparked controversy and are largely rejected by modern scholars, her work greatly influenced Gerald Gardner, the father of modern Wicca. Gardner incorporated invoking Cernunnos and other horned deities into the foundation of Wiccan practices, giving the Horned God a lasting place in the tradition. Invoking Cernunnos: Symbolism and Significance In Wiccan belief, the Horned God symbolizes life, death, and rebirth cycles. Invoking Cernunnos draws explicitly upon his role as a Gaulish deity associated with nature, fertility, and the wild. His influence is often paired with other figures like the Greek god Pan, the Green Man, and various horned spirits. By invoking Cernunnos, practitioners connect to the primal forces of nature and the changing seasons, deepening their spiritual practice. With a rich tapestry of mythological and cultural connections, the Wiccan tradition of invoking Cernunnos continues to captivate and inspire modern practitioners. Whether drawn to his symbolism, connection to nature, or enduring presence in Wicca, the Horned God remains an influential figure in Neopaganism and spiritual practice today. My Relationship With Cernunnos Cernunnos was my first introduction to the concept of the "Witch God" during my teenage years, and he has remained an integral part of my worldview ever since. In my early practice, invoking Cernunnos became a central part of my spiritual journey. I now Cernunnos as a manifestation of Lucifer, the light bearer who brings a profound sense of peace to my work. When invoking Cernunnos, I often have visions of him running with deer, swimming in a favorite lake, or meditating in serene stillness. Invoking Cernunnos offers powerful support to those in need as he takes on roles such as elder sibling, teacher, divine lover, and mate. Cernunnos reigns over the vast, pristine forest—or "garden"—of the higher astral realms of Earth. Through invoking Cernunnos, I’ve come to understand his ability to move seamlessly between his realm and ours, realigning our minds with truth and awakening us to our potential and the possibilities of our world. Invoking Cernunnos has taught me that he is a wise and gentle guide who radiates tranquility, understanding, passion, and ecstasy. When I invoke him, I feel more attuned to the needs of others and motivated to practice empathy and kindness. His presence and teachings deeply resonate with me, inspiring me to grow and embody love and compassion wherever I go. Through invoking Cernunnos, I’ve learned to approach life passionately and enthusiastically. Cernunnos embodies harmony, blending passion and sophistication while remaining deeply connected to nature. Invoking him connects me to the Earth's primal energy and majestic refinement, which are celebrated throughout his rich iconography. His strength, splendor, and vitality leave a lasting impression, revealing the transformative power of his essence. Truly, invoking Cernunnos is a profound practice that brings balance, wisdom, and inspiration to my spiritual path. The Simplicity of Invoking Cernunnos Some view Cernunnos as having horns or antlers growing from his head, but I see him differently. His horns or antlers form the majestic crown he wears as the Forest King, embodying the Lord of the Earth. He is Earth's Angel. In my practice, Lumiel, Lucifer, and Cernunnos represent different facets of the same earth angel and spiritual teacher. In their descent to Earth, they engage in two main acts that define their legacy: falling due to lust and sharing forbidden knowledge. The Tale of Lust and the Nephilim One of the most well-known interpretations of the Watchers’ story revolves around their lust for human women. Captivated by their beauty, the angels, led by a chief figure often identified as Samyaza, descend to Earth and take human wives. Their unions produce offspring known as the Nephilim, described in the Book of Genesis as "giants" and "men of renown." The Book of Genesis briefly alludes to these events: "When men began to multiply on the face of the Earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took them as wives, whomever they chose. The Nephilim were on the Earth in those days and afterward when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. These were the mighty men of old, men of renown." (Genesis 6:1-4) The Nephilim are often depicted as powerful but corrupt beings, causing destruction and chaos on Earth. Later, in the Book of Numbers, Moses' scouts encounter the descendants of the Nephilim in Canaan: "We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and so we appeared to them." The term "Nephilim" is derived from the Hebrew root "npl," meaning "to fall." This likely symbolizes their divine origins as fallen angels and their moral downfall. In this version, the leader of the fallen angels is Asael (later referred to as Azazel), a Promethean figure who brings advanced skills and wisdom to early humans. These teachings include metallurgy, weapon-making, ornament crafting, herbal medicine, and astrology. The Book of Enoch provides a detailed list of the Watchers’ contributions: Azazel : Taught the crafting of weapons and ornaments. Semjaza : Shared knowledge of enchantments and root-cuttings. Baraqel : Introduced astrology. Kokabiel : Taught about constellations. Chazaqiel : Explained meteorology. Shamsiel : Revealed the signs of the sun. Sariel : Taught the courses of the moon. Penemuel : Taught writing and the secrets of wisdom. Gadreel : Introduced cosmetics and weaponry. These teachings elevated humanity, transforming primitive societies into advanced civilizations. However, they also introduced the potential for misuse and destruction. Weaponry led to war, enchantments led to manipulation, and cosmetics may have been seen as tools of vanity and deception. Prometheus defied Zeus by stealing fire—a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment—and giving it to humanity. He was severely punished for his rebellion. Similarly, Asael and the Watchers defy Yahweh, sharing knowledge with humans and facing divine wrath. Some interpretations cast these figures as heroes in both myths, bringing progress and enlightenment to humanity. They challenge oppressive divine authority, seeking to empower humanity rather than subjugate it. This perspective portrays the fallen angels not as villains but as compassionate beings willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of mankind. The Consequences of Rebellion Yahweh’s response to the Watchers is one of wrath and condemnation. In the final verses of The Watchers, Yahweh declares: "You were in heaven, and no secret was hidden from you, yet you revealed forbidden secrets to women. By these secrets, evils multiplied on the Earth. Therefore, you shall have no peace." This reflects the belief that the Watchers’ teachings, while advancing humanity, also brought unintended consequences. Knowledge can be a double-edged sword, capable of both creation and destruction. The story serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with power and the potential dangers of unbridled ambition.
