The Master Key To Getting What You Want

Most of us desire happiness, although it can mean different things to different people. Essentially, we seek peace, joy, prosperity, fulfillment of our needs, good health, loving relationships, satisfying self-expression, and peace of mind. But what if there was a master key to getting what you want?

Think of peace as a package deal. I remember the ads for the Sandals Resorts and Club Med. These products weren’t always perfect, but one great feature was that everything was included, so you didn’t have to worry about extra costs. You just showed up, and whatever you needed was there—your food, drinks, wine, entertainment, transportation, and excursions were all included.

Peace can be viewed in the same way. When you have inner peace, it encompasses good health, prosperity, and fulfilling relationships. It also includes positive self-expression and anything that brings you joy or makes your heart sing. This is why peace is the master key to getting what you want in life.

The challenge is that we often believe our needs are so diverse that we can’t possibly meet them all. There's always one challenge we’re juggling, and when we add another, we risk dropping the ball. I remember feeling this way a lot in my young adult life, struggling to find balance between my relationships, career, and home life. It often felt like something had to be sacrificed.

The All-Inclusive Approach to Life

The more I learned about the Craft and improved my practice, I stumbled upon the answer to a question I had been pondering for years: Why can't I have it all? The answer I discovered is this: Yes, you can have it all. However, you must recognize that you are not seeking everything on your own. You are not in control of every aspect of your life, nor are you the sole producer of your experiences. Instead, it’s about focusing on the master key to getting what you want—inner peace.

When you focus on one all-encompassing goal and allow everything else to fall into place, that’s when life starts to work out. There is a powerful truth in this all-inclusive approach.

An old medieval philosophical concept compares wisdom to a wheel, with the hub representing your relationship to the Onfinite, your creator, or your inner peace—these terms are synonymous. When you achieve inner peace, you become one with your creator. Each spoke of the wheel symbolizes different aspects of your life that stem from this central hub.

One spoke might represent your relationships, another might symbolize your artistic expressions, one could represent your marriage, another for your family, and yet another for your finances. All these different spokes radiate from this single hub to form the entire wheel. Our focus should be on the hub, the center, allowing everything else to be natural outcomes that emerge from it. This hub is the master key to getting what you want.

The Role of Judgment in Disrupting Peace

In my several decades of life experience, both for myself and for those I’ve worked with, I’ve discovered that we veer away from our hub through our judgments of ourselves and others. This harmful tendency to judge can lead us to mistakenly believe that this is our role—that we are meant to judge. But judgment only takes us further from the master key to getting what you want.

When we engage in self-judgment or judge others, it's because we forgot that judgment isn’t our role. It’s akin to thinking that you are responsible for keeping the Earth spinning or for keeping your heart beating, which is simply not the case. Imagine if you had to consciously keep your heart beating and accidentally forgot—that would be disastrous! But, thankfully, that responsibility doesn’t fall on you.

At some point, we believed that it is our duty to judge, to determine if we or others are worthy of existence. The ego is clever; it won’t express this idea in blunt terms, as it’s too obvious for us to dismiss it. Yet, this is precisely what the ego assigns to us: to judge our worthiness to live and to evaluate the worthiness of others to live.

Reconnecting with Inner Peace

However, you don’t have to judge. This realization can be freeing. Thank goodness I don’t have to assess others, and I don’t need to judge myself either. The Infinite already knows the truth of who you are—better than you know yourself. The Infinite is not deceived by your ego or anyone else’s.

The Infinite judges you based on the truth, which you aren't capable of grasping with a fragmented mind filled with beliefs in separation and ego. This is why, while in this state, it’s not your role to judge. How could you possibly judge? The most you can do is determine whether you like how something feels.

That’s the extent of your judgment. You can determine, "I feel good," or "I don’t feel good," or, "I feel at peace," or "I don’t feel at peace." If you're not at peace, it simply means you need to reorient yourself. The peace already exists within you; it’s just a matter of reconnecting with it. This reconnection is the master key to getting what you want.

Letting Go of What’s Not Real

Ornate golden key glows against a vibrant sky, with clouds in pink and purple hues. A mystical and uplifting scene.

It's not something that you have to establish for yourself or create. You were created out of peace and love. Those qualities are part of the fabric of who you are. That’s why, when the Infinite judges you, it is something that you want.

The Infinite says you are peace, you are love, you are happiness. All of these things are already true about you. It's just that you've superimposed a lot of other things on top that are not organic to who you are. That is what you are interacting with and reacting to—everything that’s not real.

So, it’s not that you have to go out and make yourself better—you are already perfect. The thing we must do is let go of what’s not real. Many of the things we hold on to that aren't real are things we've actually come to love. Letting go of these false attachments is part of using the master key to getting what you want.

The Power of Goodwill

One of the ways we get tripped up with our joy, peace, and happiness is through judgment. Just as we need an object for our affection, we also need something to judge. This typically involves someone whose behavior seems highly "judgeable."

We might think: "They’re awful. Look at them! They have no redeeming qualities. They deserve to go to hell. They deserve punishment. They deserve to have payback come their way." When we think this way, it's nearly impossible to find peace. And without peace, we lose the master key to getting what we want.

Final Thoughts on the Master Key To Getting What You Want

Peace is a complete package—it brings everything you desire. Anything that disrupts your peace becomes unacceptable because you've decided that only peace matters. You don’t eliminate negative influences by simply cutting them out; that approach is also a form of suppression. Instead, you should extend love and goodwill toward the person or situation causing you unrest. This action puts you back in control.

When you embrace this understanding—recognizing that peace and joy are your goals—you’ll find that things begin to improve in all areas of your life. You won't need to juggle responsibilities or manage competing demands; everything will fall into place. This is the power of the master key to getting what you want.

Florence Scovel Shinn said, "Let God juggle it," and this is how you allow that to happen: by prioritizing peace. The idea that "the kingdom of heaven is within you" underscores that when you find inner peace, everything will work out for you. It’s simple and practical.
